I just really like drawing flowers and looking at them. Each one does different stuff, each one attracts different kinds of wildlife. I like having a variety around me to bring an abundance of the wildlife in changing seasons of the year. There’s a lot on a microscopic level that I can’t see way up high, and down below.

I hope the paintings share something finite and the mystery of that awareness. It travels with you everywhere and applies to everything in my life and death. I’ve always had awe and amazement seeing flowers and the natural world. When I was really little I had a lot of nightmares, and was afraid of ghosts roaming in the dark in the house. I remember one night after hearing the ghosts, and having my Mom come in. I was sleeping on the floor, I think because I wanted to. She told me to close my eyes and think of happy things. I thought of flowers and sun as drawings, in color, not how they look in real life. I believe that has directed a big part of my dependency on having flowers as close to me as they can get, and a strong need to be in nature. The flowers and sun help me get through the nightmares day and night, and have nectar, and pollen, and beauty to share.

Over time, and paying attention, I learned more and more that the natural world is in crisis. The knowledge that what protects me and cares for me is jeopardized by climate change. I have more urgency to paint it while it’s here, plant more, maintain it less, leave it wild.

Everyone needs to help!
